Come to an Ashram

Welcome to the ashrams of our tradition where you can practice yoga, receive instruction, do seva (service) and attend satsangs and worship services.

Ashrams are very important to the spiritual life in Sanatana Dharma, both in the Vedic and tantric traditions. An ashram is a place where sadhus-swami, sannyasis and brahmacharis live, serve Dharma and practice.

Believing householders, lay grihasthas come here for spiritual support. Vanaprasthas, retired householders who have decided to devote themselves to the spiritual search for God, like to settle near an ashram.

“Ashram” literally means "guru's house," a place where a guru (a spiritual teacher) or his experienced disciple, a monk-swami or brahmachari or karma sannyasi stays or lives; where satsangs, darshans (blessings) and dikshas (initiations) are given to disciples.

In the ashrams philosophical disputes are held and scriptures are studied and interpreted. In the ashrams everyone makes a contribution to the service of Dharma – seva.

An ashram is a place where an altar, deities of the lineage, and its relics are installed and where regular mysteries, divine theurgies, invoking the blessings of deities and saints are held.

The ashrams offer prasad, special food consecrated on the altar and offered to the deities that purifies the mind and spirit. The joyful and pure sound of a bell calling for morning veneration of the deities – arati, or for evening meditation - is a constant sound you can hear in the ashrams.

An ashram is the center of the entire spiritual life of a Vedic or tantric community, where practices are held on special days, retreats. The ashrams offer yoga and meditation classes for spiritual seekers.

An ashram is a spiritual school, a place of tapas for sadhus, a gathering place for sadhus and the sangha, a centre for serving Dharma, and a place where sacred ordinances and divine services are performed.

An ashram is a place where pure and auspicious spiritual energy accumulates, energising spiritual seekers. It is a place where the secret teachings of the ancient saints are kept and where the secrets of inner alchemy are passed from teacher to disciple
